Description

Provides patient care support services, including documentation of appropriate charge sheets, communication of observations of patient's condition and other emergent procedures. Observes and accurately documents care provided within unit guidelines for assigned patients, including documentation of vital signs during diagnostic procedures. Measures and records intake and output and collects and processes specimens. Obtains venous and arterial blood samples, performs intravenous insertion and initiation of fluid therapy. Applies urine bags to pediatric patients and performs sterile urinary catheterization on adult patients. Cleans wounds as instructed and applies sterile dressings. Performs 12 lead electrocardiograms and applies and removes leads for other cardiac monitoring. Initiates C-spine immobilization, including rigid cervical collar and backboard. Assists with casting procedures and application of MAST Trousers, HARE traction splint and other orthopaedic soft goods, such as slings, ace wraps and splints. Opens and arranges surgical and examination instruments and inspects lighting and other equipment for proper operation. Licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician by the State of practice is required. Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
