Description
Responsible for on-site technical direction and stage management for both touring and original, locally-produced events. For touring productions, advances technical aspects of performances via phone or e-mail communication to comply with contract requirements. Acts as liaison between stagehands, artist representatives, house technical staff, front-of-house staff, and the public. Advises other organizational departments regarding technical needs for non-performance-related special events and residency activities. For original productions, has oversight for a technical-theatre department such as scenery, scenic artistry, properties, costumes, stage lighting, sound, theatrical video, wigs and makeup, and stage management. Takes designer sketches and engineers them into working drawings within fire and life-safety codes. Teaches and advises student designers on the process of realizing their designs. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in technical theater or other arts-related field. Minimum three years of related experience. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
