Extracorporeal Life Support Specialist

Description

Provides ECLS (extracorporeal life support) in a full range of patient care settings. Individualizes ECLS care to meet the needs of patients. Provides rapid deployment ECLS in emergent situations. Provides advice and consultation to healthcare team members in the operation of equipment, performance of tests and specialized techniques. Aseptically sets up, primes, initiates and manages a variety of extracorporeal life support systems. May coordinate staff scheduling. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy or Perfusion may be necessary. Completion of an extracorporeal life support (ECMO) training course is necessary. Certificate or registration in nursing, respiratory therapy or a related field is necessary. This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
