Healthcare Safety Expert Unit

Description

Responsible for coordinating and conducting complex planning and implementation of projects for clinical practice, education and research related to improved safety practices and procedures and devices in a clinical setting. In collaboration with faculty, staff and leaders, identify strengths and weaknesses related to the safety of clinical practice, develop strategies and protocols for improvement, design implementation plans and evaluation criteria, and train clinicians, staff and faculty at all levels. Advise medical staff in assessing, resolving and controlling risk to patients. Conduct site inspections to assess and identify risk of patient harm in healthcare settings. Develop related training, inspection practices and program evaluation. May serve as a liaison with external planning agencies, professional associations, or approval bodies. May have a significant impact on aspects of clinical practice related to patient safety and associated issues of planning, scheduling, facility maintenance, and other procedural activities. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
