Environmental Planner

Description

Responsible for leading environmental compliance activities required for various utility projects. The project coordination responsibilities are in one or more of the following areas: fiber optic lines, electric transmission lines, etc. and may span several states. Prepare environmental assessments and impact statements, coordinate with federal granting agencies, consult with federal, state and local permitting agencies, coordinate with project engineers, prepare permit applications and obtain environmental clearances. Prepare documentation to demonstrate compliance with environmental permit conditions, monitor construction in environmentally-sensitive areas, and conduct environmental surveys. Education and experience: Requires advance degree, preferably a Master's in natural resource management or environmental science. Requires several years experience in preparing NEPA documentation as well as familiarity with various state and federal regulations. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
