Description
Supervises the activities of the Nurse Anesthetists and Student Nurse Anesthetists in the operating room suites and assists in preparing work schedules and other administrative activities. Participates in the medical assessment of patients and consults with physician on the anesthesia type and surgical procedures to be used. Assists in the evaluation and clinical instruction of Student Nurse Anesthetists. Gives clinical demonstrations and conducts lectures and seminars and assists Anesthesiologists in the conduct of periodic research studies. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a diploma or Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of an Associate degree plus one year of experience as a Staff Nurse is necessary. Registration as a Registered Nurse by the State of practice is required. Completion of an approved course in Anesthesia and certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists is required. This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix. Employees in this classification supervise three or more full-time equivalent employees every week. Direction is over a permanent status-continuing function, not a collection of employees assigned to complete a project. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary. Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight. Employees may spend time performing many of the same duties as subordinate employees. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status.
