Description
Coordinates and performs advanced, specialized complex work in the handling, feeding, treatment and care of laboratory animals to various laboratory animal care units across the organization. Provides animal care to any laboratory animal care unit within the organization. Assists in the development of standard operating procedures. Evaluates training proficiencies of external customers. Provides leadership and training to other Animal Technicians. Performs experimental procedures, monitors animal health and environmental conditions, and schedules and conducts standard tests. Confers with researchers regarding special handling and treatment needs. Inspects animal shipments, observes animals for signs of disease and health defects. Maintains daily census and records of animal care, treatment and service. Performs prescribed preventive and therapeutic treatment procedures. Records and consolidates research data and assists in data analyses. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
