Description
Responsible for overall museum collections management including review, update, and enhancement of existing collections management plan. Participate as a member of the senior staff, serving as principal advisor to Director and other senior staff on all aspects of collections management. Manage the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of items for research, permanent storage or public display. Using specialized knowledge, confers with others to plan and review projects. Analyze problems, design solutions, and test solutions developed. Within broad outlines provided by faculty, determine scientific and technical goals. Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the scientific and technical work performed. Co-authors publications, and may co-present with Principal Investigator at meetings and conferences. May supervise support personnel. Typically requires a Masters degree and 3 to 5 years of experience. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision-making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
