Description
Responsible for assisting with overall museum collections management. Participate in museum-wide planning and policy making. Responsible for the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of items for research, permanent storage or public display. Maintain collection, in accordance with professional standards and practices, to ensure long-term preservation and easy retrieval of items. May remove, clean, reconstruct and consolidate specimens for study or display. Using specialized knowledge, confers with others to plan and review projects. May assist with writing and/or reviewing grants, journal articles or other publications. May handle transition of collections, using a variety of media, to be stored and displayed electronically. Co-authors publications, and may co-present with Principal Investigator at meetings and conferences. Typically requires a Bachelors degree and 1 to 3 years of experience. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision-making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
