Emergency Management Specialist

Description

Coordinates crisis management activities that include: disaster preparedness planning for natural, technological and man-made disasters, training, and modeling to test emergency response and preparedness. Responds to emergency situations and coordinates emergency responders from various University departments and non-University agencies. Identify and maintain liaisons with local organizations (Municipalities, Schools, and Relief Organizations) to assist in disaster recovery efforts including needs for housing and volunteer personnel. Respond to requests for assistance from other non-University agencies. Inspect facilities and equipment such as emergency management centers and communications equipment in order to determine their operational and functional capabilities in emergency situations. Propose alteration of emergency response procedures based on regulatory changes, technological changes, or knowledge gained from outcomes of previous emergency situations. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
