Chief Health Officer

Description

Serves as advisor to the president and executive officers on matters of the health and wellness of the University of Michigan community including health, wellness and disease management, and critical public health issues and preparedness. Responsible for developing and implementing vision for promoting the health interests of the University of Michigan community on the University's three campuses, and for facilitating discussion, planning and coordinated action among those University agencies and offices concerned with health and wellness of faculty, staff or students, as well as dependents and retirees. Serves as a representative of and spokesperson for the University on matters of health and wellness of the University community and as an external advocate for the university in matters of health and wellness. Provides knowledge leadership and professional consultation for programs, services and practices that promote the mental and physical health and well being of the university community including workplace injury and prevention; protects and promotes healthy life styles by assuring the education of faculty, staff and students; advocates for effective health programs, services, policies and practices. Serves as a highly recognized symbol of commitment to the communitys health and well being; partners and collaborates with units and existing groups and other key parties to develop, communicate, and implement both short-and long-range strategies that address key health indicators of the university community. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, incumbent in this position meets the criteria for exempt status.
