Description
Performs conservation care and treatment on library and museum materials held in rare and special collections and museums. Evaluates and performs analytical tests on materials and develops appropriate treatments. Documents treatments in writing and by photography. Constructs custom-made protective enclosures. Advises on the condition of collections, collection storage, handling, and exhibition; performs on-site inspections, recommends appropriate action, and assists with its implementation. Develops standards, policies, procedures, and selection of materials used in the repair and conservation of both rare and non-rare library and museum materials. Requires master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and two years specialized training in library or museum conservation; and a minimum five years experience in conservation beyond basic training. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
