Description
Under general supervision performs conservation care and treatments on library and museum materials held in rare and special collections and museums. Evaluates and performs analytical tests on materials and develops appropriate treatments. Documents treatments in writing and by photography. Constructs custom-made protective enclosures. Under the direction of or in consultation with a designated supervisor, advises staff on the condition of collections, collection storage, handling, and exhibition; performs on-site inspections, recommends appropriate action, and assists with its implementation. Requires two years specialized training in conservation and bookbinding and a minimum five years experience in conservation beyond basic training. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
