Research and Development Engineer

Description

Under general direction, applies theories and principles, performs work in research and development including the design, product characteristics and the documentation necessary to produce the design in quantity. Uses tools to aid in the design, and production of new tools, new products and modification and updating of existing products. Typically requires a Bachelor degree and four to six years of experience. Labor market typical education and experience: Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
