Clinical Engineer

Description

Designs, develops and implements modifications to medical equipment to enhance the device's functionality, performance and reliability. Provide in-service training to clinical staff on such topics as appropriate maintenance procedures, proper operational techniques and electrical safety. Monitors medical device hazard alerts, recalls and investigates internal reported medical device incidents, coordinates corrective action as necessary, facilitates communication with the manufacturer and regulatory agencies. Works with clinical staff and purchasing to develop requests for proposals for medical equipment and reviews responses and negotiates with proposed vendors. Serves as a liaison for construction projects, reviews specifications, identify changes required to meet the needs of the medical equipment to be installed, and coordinates the installation of major medical equipment purchases. Works under general supervision. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
