Engineer in Research Lead

Description

Plans and coordinates the development of engineering systems for a research program or a major project. Participates with the project director in negotiations with sponsors, with primary responsibility for engineering systems. Reviews and approves plans and specifications. Prepares or supervises the preparation of engineering sections of proposals, including descriptive, cost and scheduling materials. Reviews and evaluates bids and proposals from subcontractors. Monitors the overall progress of project engineering activities, planning and implementation adjustments as necessary. Collaborates with researchers in the preparation of papers for publication. 5-8 years professional experience. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of complex assignments. May cross fields. Recommends changes in procedures. Labor market typical education and experience: Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
