Tool Design Engineer Intermediate

Description

Designs a broad range of tools including forming and cutting tools. Designs jigs, dies, and fixtures for production or experimental use. Studies specifications and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and costs of tools. Applies mathematical formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration. Selects standard items for incorporation into tool design. Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings. Modifies tool designs according to trial or production service data to improve tool life or performance. 1-3 years professional experience. Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization. Under supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
