Engineer in Research Intermediate

Description

Plans and designs the construction and modification of complex research equipment systems and subsystems. Selects appropriate materials and parts and prepares cost estimates. Prepares test specifications and performs or supervises the performance of engineering tests and evaluate results. Coordinates the fabrication of component parts. Serves as liaison with parts suppliers and subcontractors. 1 - 3 years professional experience. Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization. Under supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required. Labor market typical education and experience: Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
