Health Record Analyst

Description

Analyzes medical records (patient health information stored in hard copy and electronic forms) for completeness and accuracy and assures compliance with pre-established standards, insurance and legal requirements. Collects medical record statistics obtained from electronic record systems. Provides training to new unit staff in medical record procedures and may coordinate the work of others in the unit. Answers customer questions related to medical record procedures and assists with use of medical record systems. May abstract patient health information for the purpose of initiating and updating Problem Summary Lists (PSL), in support of patient care. May perform some minimal medical coding to support billing in clinical areas. Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is typically required. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
