Description

Research patient insurance coverage and benefits via payer websites or direct contact with insurance companies. Prepare the patient liability estimate using procedure code, diagnosis, payer fee schedule and benefit information obtained from payer research. Educate patients by phone or letter regarding insurance benefits and patient liability for hospital and professional services. Research past accounts receivable for past due balances and collect and post both prepayments and post service payments. Provide direction to check-in staff regarding collection of pre and post service patient liability. Pursue other alternative funding sources for patients completing appropriate screening forms. Refer complex billing cases to Patient Financial Consultant. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
