Description

To provide professional services by applying individual expertise in an academic, scientific, technical or professional field (e.g. academic affairs, life sciences, information technology, finance, human resources, student services, etc.). Applies fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular profession. Works under general supervision to perform work that is varied, where problems are more complex and problem-solving approach is less prescribed. Applies independent judgment in method selection and application. May be responsible for defined parts of small projects or phases of larger projects. Bachelor's Degree and reasonable professional experience is normally required. Requires an understanding of the underlying principles of a theoretical or scientific discipline and the ability to apply those principles in carrying out projects and completing work. Can be a Specialist, who applies deep knowledge of the principles, concepts and methods of a professional or technical field, or a Generalist who applies broader knowledge of the principles and concepts of a number of related fields. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
