Patient Financial Counselor

Description

Provide face to face and phone counseling to patients regarding insurance benefits and patient liability for hospital and professional services including complex billing cases such as transplants, End Stage Renal Disease and package pricing. Interpret and explain hospital and professional patient statements. Educate patients regarding payment responsibility. Make collection calls, set-up payment plans, negotiate patient discounts and settlements. Pursue alternative funding sources for the patients and assist patients with obtaining the required information and completing the appropriate forms following the policy and procedures outlined for the various alternative funding programs. Prepare charge estimates for hospital and professional services for Destination Program patients and other departments and/or patients prior to service. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
