Description

Provides optometry services including examination of the human eye to determine the presence of defects or abnormal conditions which may be remedied, corrected, or relieved by the use of lenses, prisms, contact lenses, or topical or oral medications as provided for in state statute. If necessary, refers patients to physician for further diagnosis and treatment. Doctor of Optometry degree is necessary. Licensure to practice optometry and to prescribe pharmaceutical agents in the State of practice is necessary. This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix. Labor market typical education and experience: Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status.
