Ultrasound Practitioner

Description

Provides paramedical and technical assistance for ultrasound diagnostic tests. Reviews ultrasound examinations performed by ultrasonographers to assess the quality and completeness of the imaging. Directs ultrasonographers to obtain additional images. Performs scans. Performs ultrasound-guided procedures. Provides a preliminary report of findings in both verbal and written formats. Discusses examination results with the staff radiologist. Assists in education of the residents and fellows on the Ultrasound PACS reading station and the performance and interpretation of the ultrasound examination. Presents cases at departmental and divisional conferences for educational purposes. Functional supervision is exercised over assigned assistants. Graduation from ultrasonographic training program is necessary. Five years of experience in a full service teaching hospital, high-risk obstetrical service and transplant service is necessary. Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical-Sonographers in Abdomen and OB-GYN specialties is necessary. This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix. Labor market typical education and experience: Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
